Maple Leaf Family & Sports Medicine, LLC was founded in 2001 by Dr. John C. O’Connor and Dr. Boyd C. Hoddinott. In 2003, Dr. Kristen T. Braig joined the practice. The practice welcomed Physician Assistants Sam Barnard in 2023 and Erick Nazareno in 2024. Maple Leaf is a private practice and the providers treat patients of all ages from newborn to the elderly. Maple Leaf was voted Logan Counties “Best Doctors Office” in 2020 and 2021. After 27 years of service and dedication to Logan County, Dr. Boyd Hoddinott retired January 2022.
Dr. John C. O’Connor

Dr. O'Connor grew up in Bellefontaine. He received his B.Sc. in Biology from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, where he also became a certified athletic trainer. He earned his MD from the University of Toledo, and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. While in residency Dr. O'Connor was awarded the honor of Outstanding First- and Second-Year Resident and Served as Chief Resident. He is currently the Logan County Coroner. He has been in practice since 1998 in Bellefontaine.
He is married to Kelsea O'Connor, and has two children, Emily who resides in Nashville, Tennessee and Owen, who resides in Cleveland, Ohio. |
Dr. Kristen T. Braig

Dr. Kristen Braig grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Northwestern University graduating with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and later from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She did her residency in Columbus, Ohio at Grant Medical Center. She joined Maple Leaf Family & Sports Medicine in 2003 upon completion of the residency program.
She is married to Judge Kevin Braig and they have 2 children-Ryan and Annie. |
Dr. Braig has been involved in the community since moving to Logan County. She is a member of the AAUW (The American Association of University Women) and has been on the board of Logan County Children's Services for about 20 years. She was a Boy Scout leader and still is a Girl Scout leader. She is a certified SPIN instructor and has been teaching at the Hilliker YMCA since 2020. She is also a YMCA and high school swim official which got her a great vantage point when her children were swimming. She is an avid cyclist and is also the Medical Director of GOBA (the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure). As the "empty nest" nears, she hopes to do more backpacking with her brothers out west, riding more with her cycling peeps, and spending time with the Judge on the boat or waverunner. Maybe golfing and pickleball will be in the future, too.
Alice (Allie) Risner, CNP

Allie grew up in rural Hardin County and graduated high school from Upper Scioto Valley. She then went on to community college to obtain her RN. From there, she worked at St Rita’s Medical Center for 6 years before obtaining her master’s degree in nursing/certified nurse practitioner license. She has spent the last several years practicing family medicine to indigent populations throughout Allen and Marion counties. She is excited to practice locally to help better the health of her own community.
Allie still resides in Hardin County with her 3 children. She enjoys spending time with family & friends, 4-H/livestock projects with her kids and traveling new places. |
Kimberly Vanover-Bardo, CNP

Kimberly was born in St Mary’s and graduated from Memorial High School. She began her healthcare career in 1994. After earning her associate’s degree, she began working at St. Rita’s Medical Center in the intensive care unit. She was a travel nurse for many years in level 1 trauma centers throughout the United States including Hawaii and The U.S. Virgin Islands gaining immeasurable experience and expertise in critical care before obtaining her master’s degree in nursing and earning her Certified Nurse Practitioner License.
Kimberly is married and has 4 daughters, two stepdaughters and one stepson. She enjoys time with her 7 grandchildren who are active in tennis, barrel racing and dirt bike racing. |
Boyd C. Hoddinott, B.Sc., MD, CCFP, (Emeritus)

Dr. Hoddinott earned his B.Sc. as well as football letters from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, and obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario. In medical school, he was awarded prizes in physiology, genetics, pediatrics and psychiatry. He was voted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Horn Society by his professors. He spent 25 years in practice in Georgetown, Ontario where he had extensive experience treating high performance athletes.
Dr. Hoddinott was Health Commissioner for Logan County from 2000-2021. In 2006 he received his Masters in Public health from Wright State University. Dr. Hoddinott is Board Certified by the Canadian College of Family Practice and has passed his U.K. Society of Orthopedic Medicine exams. He and his wife Jane live in Bellefontaine and have two children, Jennifer and Andrew. Dr. Hoddinott loves skiing and golfing as well as traveling with Jane. |
Dr. Hoddinott retired January 31, 2022 after 27 years of service and dedication to Logan County.
